GH MUSICIANS ARE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DROP OUTS

There is a saying that assumption is the deadline for anybody in life. To be in the business of assuming what that particular business venture entails is very dangerous hence it will be better to leave that venture and seek knowledge first.

Our arts industry lacks two things, formal education and knowledge. NanaYaw18.com a newsgroup in the country has come out with its finding after a research on how many musicians have formal education and knowledge in this show business industry.

We took a journey of researching about the level of education musicians have in this country and we must say it is a disgrace to talk about it. One particular story kept on repeating, which is, I am a senior high school dropout. Back in the days in school, I use to spend all my time in the studios hence after performing on different stages in different schools; I decided to take it as a profession hence I spent sleepless night jumping from studio to studio in search of help.

How do you want to meet the right person if your level of education is that low, how would you even access the packages given you by that person, no wonder a lot of them complain about management exploiting them. Why do you allow yourself to be exploited and blame someone else because they turn up to give room to radio / TV presenters to manage them without asking the right questions before even calling him/her a manager?

Let get the point straight here majority of musicians’ highest form of education was the senior high school level, the ones with good education can be counted for that matter how does an industry grow if the players themselves are as ignorant as ignoramus.

How can senior high school dropouts, not even a graduate understand the level of contracts well written by professional lawyers? Someone should also speak to these names in the music industry and you will realize their crying about been cheated by management and record labels are all due to the fact that they did not understand their signing contract just because they lacked education and knowledge.

Most of our musicians lack knowledge about the show business structure in the world at large. Many of them because of the talent turn to assume the details of the business, they enter the market with products without really knowing what he / she wants.

Majority of the time, they talk about BRANDING and being a BRAND. Let’s ask them what branding means and what makes them a brand, we will be shocked at the response. For they don’t know what it means but because they have probably heard their fellow learned musicians outside the shores talk about it, they also do same.

Once we asked a musician why he is often seen in a particular dressing style and he said something very interesting. ‘I have realized that most of my friends have that dressing style and fans shout out to them anytime they see them hence to get the attention of the fans I also carved this dressing style.

Do you see how ignoramus our musicians are and the fact that Education must be a compulsory tool for them? How many musicians in the country do not names for ‘fake’ clothe lines but ask yourself where are those lines and how far with them. Some of them just end up mentioning something because they have heard some musicians do that during red carpets interviews hence when media cameras meet them, they just cook one for us not knowing what it implies.

How many musicians in this country can boost of following correct contract rules, very few we guess and how many of them do not change managers like their clothes simply because they lack knowledge.

NanaYaw18.com wants to suggest to the musicians union of Ghana (MUSICGA) to make formal educational compulsory among its members. Maybe at a certain point of the artiste career they need to get a certain education qualification before they can do something.

If we want to have a better industry then our musicians need to understand that without education they cannot move as fast as they want and they will forever be cheated. A word to the wise is in enough and please spare us the complains and go back to complete senior school, write exams and get certificate.
