Ghana movie industry stakeholders; Did you guys watch the oscars?

I had the chance to watch the Oscars two nights ago and I was super impressed with the consistency and dedication the award scheme has kept over the years.

The scheme is helping make the Hollywood movie monopoly more powerful.

I know the oscars is in its 91st year and that is impressive.

I also know that they started from some where and clearly does not look like they are going to stop anytime soon.

what is my point.

After so many years of producing amazing  films in Ghana, where is our biggest movie award scheme an where is our academy.

Does the film industry even have a credible academy that producers and film makers recognize.

I also know that there are other movie awards schemes, such as, Golden Globes and so on but the oscars is the ultimate scheme that every actor or actress wants to achieve.

This is because 'the powers that be' in Hollywood have made it so; by so doing it helps the industry get better and it keeps it respect.  Everyone wants to win the most recognized by film producers and directors to raise their fees and rank in the business.

Where is our premium award scheme as a movie industry. Where are the powers that be that can help us savage our movie industry.

These days, a lot of movie awards are springing up, which is fine but we need one that we can call the ultimate like our own oscars.

Where is the industry? Who is regulating what and who is checking what?

If after so many years we cannot grow a simple film industry to the level where it will be juicy enough for the next generation of film makers to take it to the next level then, Hmm, we are dead.

Are we going to continue to do our individual productions, make our money and that is all. We are not bothered that we are not leaving any legacy for generations yet unborn to pick up and build upon.

We need Ghana’s own oscars. If we start now, we can get somewhere.

We need it and we need it now.
