RADIO / TV STATIONS DISREGARD MUSICIANS UNTIL THEIR EVENTS

Most often we hear musicians crying out about the high price to pay just to promote their latest songs or albums in the media, specifically radio and TV stations.

These media mediums do not only charge high prize for airtime play of a video or audio but also have staff attitude problems by disregarding these musicians who are seeking to put their records out there through these medium.

After giving these guys a hell of a time to promote their songs on their mediums, these radio and TV stations end up by asking for their services when the musician has actually gone through other means to get the attention of Ghanaians and the stations as a whole.

18newspaper can count the countless times of which certain well known reputable media houses in the country, once said no to some artistes in the country but after they (the artiste) has gained its attention, run after him for a performance just because they (radio / TV stations) know their listeners and viewers respectively now want to see them.

The stations of which we are withholding the names but know themselves do not only seek for the services of these musicians but go ahead to hype them as if they care about them. What is most painful about this situation is, the radio / TV stations give the artiste all the benefits he once pleaded for but due to financial capabilities could not pay.

Assuming a radio /TV station is about to host an event and is parading local stars on it, we will from one month before the event, keep hearing songs from these artistes on that particular network.

As for interviews, even when the artiste is indisposed the stations still want them to try and make just because they want to fulfill their event marketing strategy hence if the artiste refuses to show up, they tag him / her as disrespectful.

18newspaper believes that, it is about time artistes in the country get their acts together, those who do not respect you when you were climbing the ladder of success should not be treated fairly when you gain your success.

Why would a media house which is suppose to promote arts and culture wait until they need something from an artiste before giving them the platform and when the event is over, all artistes who were on bill for the stations event hardly gets their benefits due to them as agreed between both parties?

18newspaper.com will want to use its medium to draw the attention of the artistes to wake up for if they opted to host a morning show on an open day on a radio station, that station would have said no, but if the station has an event of which that artiste is performing, then they will without argue and reasoning agree. Why should this be so?
