OUR SONGS IN GH HAVE MORE DRUM BASE THAN CONTENT – CHEMPHE

RNB SINGER -CHEMPHE
Henry Agyekum Chemphe musically called Chemphe who shot to fame in 2005 with his song ‘No pampanaa’ and later in 2006 with ‘why u treat her bad’ revealed on Day break Hits with Lexis Bill that Ghanaian music now has more ‘drum base (beat) than content (message) in our songs’.
The artiste who was responding to a question from Lexis about his biggest challenge so far in his music career despite all the chalked achievements he has and he said: ‘one heavy challenge for me is the fact that our music in Ghana now has more drum base than content, so if you an artiste and you focus on your content then you will not be on the list of the Djs’.

Chemphe explained his words more on day break hits this morning: ‘I am not saying all the hit songs in the country are noisy songs and that they don’t make sense, what am saying is simple, people turn to leave out the content of a song now and focus more on the beats and rhythms that will sell more to their fans, and that to me is not a good idea’.
The artiste stressed: ‘every musician is a business man and we don’t compose songs for ourselves, it’s for the people hence we look at what will sell to the people before we think about ourselves and that is where some musicians leave out the message part of the music, focusing on the beat part of it in order to make it sell’.
The RnB singer has travelled the length and breadth of the world performing on huge stages from Asia through to Europe and he said that there are only two things that he could do better that is football and music plus all those in Tema who knows him is seek of football.

Is the RnB singer right that Ghanaian music is more of the beat than content and hence if you are an artiste who focuses on content or message you will never be on the list of a DJ?
For us at 18newspaper we totally agree with the singer and challenge our musicians that despite the fact that we want hit rhythms we should also think about songs that will last the test of time.
