KWAW KESSE - HIP LIFE ARTISTE |
A musician is a
magician; their ability to use lyrics to touch lives, getting people to love
them because they have a spirit to connect with fans, and speak on their behalf
through their music is such an experience.
The question of
whether these musicians in Ghana have music lovers who understand their kind of
genre they do and also have a fan base that are ready to follow them with every
single song they release within that genre.
So many genres
together with their musicians are dying in the country because we don’t have
consistent music lovers of those genres and that big problem leads to the
missing of some musicians after a hit because they don’t have hit songs within
a year under a review.
If the country Ghana
had music lovers and not music followers, genres like Hi-life music, Hip life,
crunk music, Hip hop, among other genres here will all be in existence with
enough musicians still doing their field of genre and not have to be switching,
trying to fit into the system or else
he/she will go hungry.
The majority of
Ghanaians are music followers, they are not music lovers, why do we say this; in the past there were
great musicians, so many of them and they were all doing well but today where
is Yogi Dogi, Dead Body now Qwesi is back and struggling, where is Bacteria,
Back tyre, Dogo, Motia, the list is endless.
The issue is not that
these above names could not manage their affairs well, no, it is because
Ghanaian music followers stop following their genre – Hip Life and started
following a different genre that was introduced by someone else.
This issue of
Ghanaians being music followers is killing Hi-life music simply because, for three years continuous Hi-life artiste of
the year has been one artiste – Kwabena Kwabena and to make it worst the
switching of fans to a particular genre is forcing Hi-life musicians such as KK
Fosu, Kwesi P, just to mention a few trying to put a certain current trend into
their music, why should this happen.
Currently Azonto is
the order of the day and the music followers have switched to that kind of
music, they will not accept anything if it is not Azonto hence musicians in do
other genres and not Azonto in as much as they try have to do what the masses
want, hence slowly we are narrowing our music genres in the country.
Artiste such as
Bertha, Kesse, Nii Soul, Emmanuel, Fritz, just to mention a few good singers
are suffering because in as much as they try the new Azonto it still does not
sound good as they being themselves doing their kind of music but if they do
where are the listeners, fans or followers.
Recently Chemphe
released a single called ‘Number 1’ ft Dcryme, fantastic song but it is not
going far just because the home base fans are not flowing with it hence the
artiste hardly gets a show to perform in the country, doing all his shows
outside Ghana, why?
The issue of
Ghanaians killing genres in the country is really a big one that needs to be
looked at or else by the time we realize Ghana music awards will have only one
category, which will be the current trend available.
What happen to the
Hi-life music lovers, the Hip life, Crunk, Hip Hop, Dancehall, Aphro pop among
others, where are they, well 18newspaper can say that now gospel music lovers
are all in the Azonto box hence majority of Ghanaians of the above genres are
also in the Azonto box as well.
Finally if a
different trend should come this year, believe us, our sincere music followers
will move as fast as they can to be music
lovers of that new trend and that kills all those musicians who have the Azonto
kind of style.
There has to variety
in our music, we need to have competition among genres, Hi-life music lovers
should be diehard fans, not dye – hard fans so that musicians with the Hi-life
talent will be encouraged, motivated, fulfilled to do better Hi-life music,
knowing there is a fan base following but now the situation is not so.
Enough of the killing
of the music genre and great musicians, Ghana has lost the lyrical prowess days
of music, during which even Hip –life music made sense, musicians thought the
world positivity in majority of songs but now anything called lyrics with a
drum base becomes a hit just because people want to dance.
Music is soul
connection, if you don’t love music, don’t pretend to do so, 18newspaper can
confirm majority of Ghanaians as music followers, and they hop around genres
looking for the new one to follow and don’t want anything to do with the old
one.
