THE 18TH WASME INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OPENS FOR REGISTRATION

The 18th WASME international conference scheduled to take place on July 25-29 at the plush Mensvic Grand Hotel East Legon is opened for registration for both Participants and Exhibitors.

WASME-World Association for Small & Medium Enterprises is the organizers of the above event. It has been organizing these international conferences for 17 year's event is focused on promoting micro, small and medium enterprises and this year is focused on women's entrepreneurial activities aimed at moving them to the next level.


The conference which will be hosted by the Ghana Association of Women Entrepreneurs (GAWE) in collaboration with the Ministries of Women & Children Affairs (MOWAC0 Trade and Industries (MOTI), Food and Agriculture (MOFA), local Government and Rural Development, Tourism and Ghana Employers Association GEA) is promoting women empowerment and also giving the opportunity for all SMEs to exhibit their made in Ghana products.

The theme for this year is “Empowering Women through Entrepreneurship: Issues, Opportunities and Approaches” The objective is to enhance awareness and create a more informed understanding on the opportunities, issues, and approaches to entrepreneurial activities for Women Empowerment with resultant attention and resources directed towards supporting women entrepreneurs to create more jobs, reduce poverty and economically empower women on sustainable basis in Africa.

In throwing more light on the conference, Mrs. Lucia Quachey noted: “the conference will build bridges and create linkages for a better world for women entrepreneurs and women in business; it will bring together an exclusive group of 200 thought leaders, investors, development practitioners , Policy makers (Parliamentarians and Political party Leaders), Business men and women, Banks and Financial Institutions, ICT Experts, Media Personnel which will explore approaches, share perspectives on best practices and develop concrete business ideas that are focused on sustainable investment strategies in Africa.

In explaining the above lined up of participating continents, she said that there will be 2000 exclusive groups of thought leaders, policy makers, Entrepreneurs, business men and women, investors, development practitioners, ICT Experts, Media Experts and Social Entrepreneurs who will explore approaches, share perspective and best practices and develop concrete business ideas that is focused on sustainable investment strategies in Africa; while looking at harness the efficient market systems directed towards social and environmental issues that leads to financial returns, coupled with positive social change.

She mentioned that the Trail blazer event is multisectorial aimed at creating new informed strategies for action for African Women entrepreneurs and women in business. GAWE recognizes these diverse and unique experiences as a relevant tool for safeguarding the integrity and diversity of women's interest in business in a challenging economic environment. We also want to harness efficient market systems directed towards social and environmental issues that lead to financial returns, coupled with positive social change.

GAWE successfully hosted the First Global in June 1996 in Accra as a follow up to the UN Women's conference in Beijing 1995; hosted the 4th WASME Conference in Accra as a follow up to the First Global Trade Fair and Investment Forum 1997 focused on ICT and Technology to help increase productivity.
GAWE coordinated and co – hosted the second Global conference in Addis Ababa in October 1998, the third Global Women Entrepreneurs Trade Fair and Investment Forum in Miami Dade County, hosted by the Executive Mayor of Miami Dade County in May 2000.

We organized the 4th Global women Entrepreneur Trade Fair and Investment Forum July 2009 at the International Conference Centre in Accra to build on the Accra Declaration of the 1996, Addis Ababa Recommendation of 1998 and the Miami Dade Recommendation of 2000 meant for building the institutional capacities of AFWE and similar institutions in Africa focused on building the capacities of the informal sector in Africa, dominated by women.
