The most anticipated MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) with Airtel came off last night at the Eko Expo Hall, Lagos with some surprises.

Among the biggest successes in the past year, Wande Coal missed out on the honors, with less Nigerian domination this year. Ghana’s only representative, Sarkodie lost the Best Anglophone nod to Daddy Owen.  However the Ghanaian rapper got the chance to shine in a mash up with Chuck D of Public Enemy fame and Nigerian female rap newcomer, Mo Cheddah.

The  big winners on the night were Fally Ipupa winning Best Video and Best Francophone; and 2face winning Best Male and Best Artist.

The 2010 MAMAs was hosted by US female rap star, Eve. Guest presenters and celebrity guests included Ba Ponga, Dama do Bling, Lizha James, Daniel Amokachi, Oluchi, Julius Agwu, Genevieve Nnaji, Muthoni, Nneka, MTV VJs Vanessa Mdee  & Sizwe Dhlomo, Tatiana, JoJo and fashion designer Lisa Foluniyo.
