DJ MENSA “TURNS THE TABLE” FOR ELEVEN SUCCESSIVE YEARS

There cannot be a discussion on DJing in Ghana without paying homage to one name who without any doubt is Accra’s finest on the turn tables, DJ Mensa.

Kicking his life from the early days during Tema Secondary school, DJ Mensa has continuously maintained and increased most importantly his level of playing all forms of Turn tables both locally and internationally.

The dream to be a professional Disc Jockey came when he left Accra Polytechnic some years back, after he had performed with Cassettes during his senior high school days where he was the entertainment prefect.

DJ mensa said: “I remember Nana Arfo, back then gave me a cassette player and said I have this, why don’t you start with it.”

In addition, DJ mensa who was full of smiles talking about his past said, I took that player, worked on it and after eleven blessed successful years in Disc Jockey I can look back and nod my head in happiness”.

Even though the salary in DJing in Ghana is not of the best value yet, DJ Mensa was optimistic that it will get better as it has started now.

This he said: “sometime back, you could hardly find a musician performing on stage with his own DJ but now it has started, our musicians some way somehow are beginning to understand how important our role in their life is; hence they can’t do without us.”

His memorable day in disc jockey was when he played with Sarkodie inside Amsterdam (Holland), even though he has played in London among other foreign countries.

The feeling inside Amsterdam he said: “the reception was too much to handle, everybody was welcoming and even the crowd was some crowd to play to, trust me, (his smiles increased).

Been one of the countries best DJ means a lot of night went by with unseen candles that were burnt coupled with hard work, determination and unstoppable passion.

These core values kept DJ Mensa on till now, these same ethnics he transfers to any young person who wants to be a DJ just or more than him DJ Mensa.

His unstoppable gratitude went to a lot of people in and outside the industry, among them were: Nana Arfo, Bola Ray of Empire Entertainment, Fred of Evolution international, Dennis of Akwaaba UK, Rob of Rob definitions and Xfm 95.1 where he works as a radio DJ on Saturday evening.
