At the just ended Ghana music awards forum held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, the minister of Trade, Mrs. Hannah Tetteh challenged the music industry  and the creative arts stakes holders as a whole  to make business case instead of always pleading to the government.

This she said: “I don’t think the creative industry should plead to government but rather make the business case” to government.

she explained that, if the music industry can make the case as to why among all the competiting needs in the country, the creative industry has to be dealt with rather than the other sectors, like roads, hospitals, schools,  electricity, among others and all of which are important.

Also why should the government push X amount into the creative arts and not the other sectors and if they can tell how much the government will be getting in return, then they put the numbers together.

Mrs. Hannah Tetteh also lamented that, the government has put in place the micro small and media enterprise projects with support from the World Bank.

This she stressed as the government wants to see if it will be possible to use some of these small funds to support the creative industry, so as we speak a consultant is tasked to work on it.

So if the industry will stop wailing and make business cases, the government of Ghana, will hear our knock and open up to us for business talk but until we do that, the government has other pressing needs just like the arts industry.

Let’s make the business case instead of the pleading case.
