TV STATIONS DISREGARD ENTERTAINMENT NEWS SEGMENT

For some time now 18newspaper.com has been on the lookout on television stations that has the best entertainment contents and duration during their prime time news at 7pm.

We can say for a fact that none of the television stations give a better segment time and content to entertainment, being it music, movies, fashion and events.

We also compared the time duration given to entertainment segments as to sports, business, social, health and politics. It was gathered that our entertainment segment has less than five (5) minutes on air well as the other segments on that same news have not less than ten (10) to fifteen (15) minutes.

The big question is, why would entertainment, which forms the biggest part of our lives every single day be neglected in such a manner. Is that our television stations do not have enough content to give viewers during their prime time news or they simply do not regard it a necessity to be given attention to.

What is worse is, most of our television stations have slogans as ‘first in news best in entertainment’, ‘your number 1 entertainer’ and the likes but yet still their prime time news item does not revolve around their slogan.

Could it be that, they only regard their entertainment programs on the channel as the reason why they have these slogans. Or have our television stations forgotten that, the kind of viewers their prime time attracts deserves to know that entertainment is one important aspect of our lives just like health, politics, sports and the rest.

How do we challenge our politicians to factor entertainment or the arts and culture for that matter into their manifesto or policy making decisions, when entertainment only has less than 5 minutes during a prime time TV news item, how will they regard the industry as serious. 

18newspaper will not want to mention TV stations names but is throwing this appeal to all of them to factor the arts and culture in their prime time news giving it more duration. 

In the case of content even though none of them have the best of content in terms of entertainment, we hope that they will find the right content to show which will entice the government, private sector and politicians to factor the entertainment cycle more serious.
