Over
the weekend 18newspaper gathered that MUSICGA had not already claimed ownership
of the government’s GHC2m budget set aside for the creative arts industry but
the music union had allegedly spent the money.
Rex
Omar a member of the management team of the musicians Union was captured
admitting this on a local radio station in Accra when he was answering
questions about the said money allocated to the creative arts industry.
It
is alleged that MUSICGA and some ministry of Finance officials had cleared the
government’s budget allocation without the sitting President of the country
notification and approval.
Let’s
analyze this situation together, the graphic showbiz last Thursday captured
‘Well dodge’ musicians Union had cleared the money and Mr. President did not
know?
First
off, MUSICGA claiming ownership of the money is a typical Ghana man attitude (quote
and quote) style of living that is to say seek personal interest first before
all other things can be thought about attitude.
Second
off, who in the ministry of finance had the last powerful signature to the
cheque that was handed over to the musicians union? Didn’t that government
official know that, the allocation of the money was for the arts industry on
the national budget? Why give a go ahead to funds that belongs to a whole
circle to just one part of it?
18newspaper
is asking, why is the President quiet about our case? Why is he not dissecting
the issue to find out whom and who gave the order within the ministry of
finance for the money to be paid?
Third,
18newspaper is asking, if truly it was the musicians union of Ghana who made
that attempt to secure some funds from the government, why did the politician
say it was monies allocated for the creative arts industry knowing very well as
a learned man that the creative arts industry is not only for musicians.
May
be it was a political move to impress the people in the arts circle, for on
countless occasion in this country all we hear is that, for the first time the
Government has allocated funds for the arts industry, we have never heard
anywhere that some GHC2m was allocated for the musicians union, so who paid the
money to the UNION?
Are
we been forced to believe that it was miscommunication on the part of the
government during the presentation of the national budget this year?
What
18newspaper is saying that all industry stake holders are asking one thing, who
paid the money to MUSICGA and why are they being selfish? If musicians think
they are the creative industry hence deserve the funds, we all live to see what
that money will do for them since we know that they cannot even solve a simple
case of ‘PAYOLA’ and ‘ROYALTIES’.
