Musicians are set to be on
the losing point during this year’s election campaign platforms because most
political parties are not using their songs or images as compared to last four
years during their activities.
Unlike what we saw some
four years ago where most political parties used the services of the musicians
to either compose a song or use their images to aid the smooth campaign is not
the order of the day, four years on, which is, now.
Already we have seen some political
parties advertising their flag bearer on TV and radio with either their old
party anthem or the old songs composed for them some four years ago.
We have seen the NPP
launch their manifesto and campaign recently in Accra without any musician
climbing their platform unlike four years ago where we saw a chunk of musicians
on their stages.
Also we over the weekend
saw the NDC beautifully held their congress without any special song from any
musician and not to talk about the fact that they did not involve the
musicians.
All the other political
parties, like PPP, PNC, CPP, and the likes are all embarking on their campaign
without any input from our musicians.
What could be the reason
why politicians are not involving the musicians in their campaigns this year?
Could it be that, they (political parties) have not heard any song that matches
their campaign slogan or it is because they themselves have not come out with
any slogan yet that is why we are not seeing the musicians getting to work.
Could it also be that,
last four years because many Ghanaian including the musicians groups themselves
spoke against the parties for using the musicians’ image and songs for their
selfish gains and not paying attention to them when they win power? Could it
also be that they (political parties) don’t see the need to seek their service
again for they can use their old songs.
Finally, can it be that
our musicians weight in increasing the votes for the politician is very feeble
hence their influence is not as great as many thought?
Well whatever the reason
is, this year many musicians will lose a lot of money as compared to last year
where many of them became double richer and encouraging most of them to stand
for their right.
It’s too much talk last
year from our fellow musicians who could not gain the nod to do songs for
political parties affecting the ones who the chance to do songs this year? The
truth is whether we like it or not, these politicians make our musicians rich,
they are able to cover their lost revenue after recording or performing on
campaign platforms for a political party hence Ghanaians and their fellow
colleagues should allow them.
We wait in anticipation to
find out whether before proper campaign starts some musicians like the A-plus,
Kwabena Kwabena, Daddy Lumba, and the likes will get the nod to be on stage
again plus it is not wrong if a musician declares his political party he / she
supports, it is done everywhere.
